Welcome to Advent Prayer!
This Advent, we invite you to make time to stop and pray for the Middle East and North Africa, and reflect on the hope that only Jesus brings.
The journey to Christmas Day will take us through three countries: Iran, believed to have been the place from which the Magi set out to find the new King; Egypt, a place of refuge for Jesus and His parents at a time of acute danger; and Turkey, birthplace of St Nicholas, whose generosity has inspired the giving of countless Christmas gifts over the centuries.
Each day includes a daily reflection to guide your prayers for each country and its people, as well as the work that SAT-7 is doing across the region.
Click on each country below to view the week's reflections. You can also download your PDF of the Prayer Guide booklet here.
Join us this Advent as we lift our prayers to God, the "hope of all the earth"!
Week 1: Iran
With a repressive government, faltering economy, rampant drug abuse and fractious relations with the West, many Iranians are running out of reasons to hope. But in the midst of such despair, the people of Iran are turning to Christ in growing numbers.
Week 2: Egypt
The Egyptian people are facing youth unemployment, widespread poverty, an unstable economy and continuing human rights violations. But Egypt is also home to the Middle East's largest Christian population - and despite violent attacks in recent years, the Egyptian Church is faithful and thriving.
Week 3: Turkey
Turkey has a rich Christian heritage stretching back to the Early Church, but today Christians make up less than 0.2 per cent of the population. SAT-7's Turkish channel gives a voice to these marginalised believers, and, in the midst of strenuous political and economic times, equips them to share God's love with their anxious nation.
Hope of all the earth
In the final few days of Advent, we zoom out from the Middle East and look to the whole earth - a world that is scarred and broken, but immeasurably loved by God.
