Because I am a Woman, which started on 10 February, is a documentary-style show that is investigating some of the most controversial and shocking issues that affect women in the Arab world. It takes a hard-hitting factual approach featuring statistics and expert analysis as well as covering real-life stories.
In this programme, the presenters seek to give answers to the challenges Iranian women face today by looking to the example of women in the Bible. Topics have included: how godly women can bring hope in hopeless situations; respecting those who are different; and the role of love in marriage.
When SAT-7 ARABIC launched Needle and Thread, its magazine show for young women, the goal was clear from the start. As Maggie Morgan, an award-winning Egyptian documentary and feature film maker, describes the series “This programme seeks to present women that are fully alive. Women not only need to embrace their God-given identities, but to embrace them in full colour.”
This programme confront controversial issues in which North African women often remain voiceless. The programme is in Arabic with Kabyle subtitles, making it accessible to different communities spread throughout Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and Libya.
