During two years of war in Gaza, 64,000 children have reportedly been killed or seriously injured according to UNICEF. That’s enough children to fill around 100 UK schools. Many more across the region are dealing with trauma, heartbreak and grief, far beyond their tender; Iran, Sudan, Yemen to name but a few countries shattered by devastating conflict.

Amir, aged 14, lost his uncles and grandfather when their home in Gaza was shelled. He was trapped inside the rubble and darkness for 24 hours, his eyes sore and scratchy from dust and tears of grief. Amir was thankfully rescued but then had to wait four days in hospital for surgery. He is now having to adapt to the amputation of fingers on one of his hands. “Words can’t describe what happened to us,” Amir said. “I lived a difficult life. I hope the future will be easier than the past.”

Amir was invited to take part in a special episode of You Are Not Alone, along with other children who, like him, had suffered terribly due to war and conflict. Whilst I was in the Beirut studio, I met the programme’s presenter, Sirene, who told me about the day she met Amir...
“Hosting these children in our studio was incredibly emotional,” said Sirene. “They reminded us once again of God’s love for us.”
