Sunday 5 March
On this Resurrection Sunday, we praise God that Christ is risen and alive! It's been such a blessing for us to be praying with you through Lent for the Middle East and North Africa and our brothers and sisters in the region. Thank you for setting aside the time to pray with us.
On the last day of our Lent series, Noorullah Noor, Afghan SAT-7 presenter, based in Germany, is leading us in prayer for his home country, Afghanistan. Watch the clip below and join us in prayer for the country. Further down, you can read more about Afghanistan and SAT-7's work there.

Oh Lord, God of love, I pray for my dear homeland, Afghanistan. I thank You for this nation and for choosing some from among its people to be Your children and to glorify Your name. Heavenly Father, You desire goodness and well-being for all people. Let the knowledge of the Lord be established in this land, so that the people's fear of war and killing will disappear and their hearts are captured by the love of God. You alone are the way and the life - I pray that Your ways will be made known to the people of my land.
Lord Jesus Christ, the people of Afghanistan are surrounded by problems and are experiencing suffering and torment. As our loving God, You have known suffering and torment, and to achieve our rescue and freedom, You came as a human being to take our suffering upon Yourself so that we may be released from our bondage to sin and experience joy in place of anguish. For that purpose, You gave Your life on the cross, died and rose again, so that whoever believes in You may have eternal life. Thank You for Your endless grace and love. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
Verse of the day
"Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith — that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead."
PHILIPPIANS 3:8-11

News from Afghanistan
• Since the return to Taliban rule in August 2021, there have been increasing restrictions on women’s and girls’ participation in public life and education, targeted persecution of racial and religious minorities, and punishments and executions of former government workers.
• Drought combined with a halt to international aid and a freezing of Afghan assets abroad since 2021 has plunged a poor country into deeper poverty, affecting 97 per cent of the population.
• There are thought to be between five and eight thousand Afghan Christians. Small but growing numbers who previously met covertly now have to be even more cautious. Many believers fled to neighbouring countries or went into hiding following the Taliban takeover.

SAT-7 in Afghanistan
SAT-7 produces programmes in the Dari dialect of Persian for viewers in Afghanistan. One of these is Church4Afghanistan, presented by Noorullah Noor, which launched on Facebook and Instagram at the end of last year. Each week, Noorullah is joined by different Afghan guests, and together they explore biblical topics, while also discussing the current situation in Afghanistan, especially for the Christians living in the country. You can read more about it here.
We have several families here, including my own, who are all believers. Our hope is that the Lord will touch the heart of the people of Afghanistan and the situation in the country will calm down and we will be able to build a church and worship the Lord alongside our brothers and sisters.” Daanesh, SAT-7 viewer in Afghanistan.
