Following Jesus in a crowd
Social media is a forum of contrasting opinions, where people can be quick to judge. Obviously, the Bible doesn’t speak directly about this modern phenomenon – but the story of Jesus’ wise reaction to a hostile crowd can help us “go deeper” into what it means to follow Him online.
Read
- The story of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery from John 8:1-11.
Reflect or Discuss
- Be honest – do you think you notice the wrongs of others more than you notice your own?
- How does Jesus respond to the crowd of accusers in verses 6-8? What can this teach us about reacting in difficult or hostile situations? How can you become more of a “diffuser” than an “accuser” online?
- Look at Jesus’s response to the woman in verses 9-11. How does He treat her? How is this different to how the crowd treated her in verses 3-5?
Pray
- Reflect on any recent interactions where you could have shown more grace – ask God to forgive you. Pray for SAT-7’s social media teams, that they will continue to respond to online comments with wisdom, patience and love.
