Middle East Christian broadcaster SAT-7 is pleased to announce that Mr Melih Ekener has been appointed as Executive Director of its Turkish language channel, SAT-7 TÜRK.
Mr Ekener comes to SAT-7 with over 25 years of experience in the Turkish TV industry as an actor, presenter, producer and director. He is well known in Turkey and has appeared in many TV serials and also starred in several movies. In addition, Mr Ekener has been a radio presenter, for 14 years one of the most listened to broadcasters in Turkey on national radio stations. He was also involved in the founding of one of the first private Turkish television channels, KANAL 6.
Mr Ekener comments, “SAT-7 is an amazing opportunity for me to share my faith. Before, I could only share my faith one-on-one. Now I feel I can combine my personal faith and my professional expertise to help transmit the truth of Christianity into millions of Turkish homes. Many Turks have false information and negative perceptions of Christianity. SAT-7 TÜRK has an obligation to present the truth in a culturally appropriate but bold way.”
Currently SAT-7 TÜRK transmits four hours of programming per day and the goal is to establish a 24/7 channel on a Turkish satellite. Terry Ascott, SAT-7’s International CEO comments, “Melih’s wide experience and industry contacts will be invaluable as we pray and work towards establishing a full 24/7 Turkish channel alongside our Arabic and Farsi channels.”
As well as helping with transitional issues, the former Executive Director, David Middleton, will continue to work with SAT-7 as the Executive Director for TÜRK’s UK operating company, assisting the new TÜRK Executive Director, International and support offices with fundraising and communications related to SAT-7 TÜRK.
