Martin Thomas recently interviewed George Makeen, who has worked for SAT-7 for over twenty years, playing a major role in the development and growth of the organisation into a network of 4 channels. Originally from Cairo, Egypt, George is currently SAT-7’s Content Ministry Advisor, based in the International Office in Cyprus.
He started by asking George about the issues facing North Africa at this time, as well as the political and cultural issues and how they have been impacting countries like Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
"Historically the Arab world is divided between the east and the west."
“Culturally we are disconnected, so that is a great thing [that] we [SAT-7] are connecting people together and especially connecting believers together.”
The church contributing to the good of society and culture
"So for the church to flourish, to, to grow, to see a growing church, it has to be witnessing and to be contributing. This is like, stretching the muscles, and being active is the way. We start by the most important thing I think nowadays is that, you normalize or make people aware that, this region, has, its roots because of its Christian roots and there is a space, for believers coming from this land to live, and to, to grow and to witness."
Learning from the church in the east
"Other thing that I think we can learn from them as the church in the East, that, being connected, being part of their society, not being shy of saying that I am Algerian, I'm Moroccan, I'm Tunisian."
